Mimi (Poem)

Mimi

Mimi came back
to the island
after seven years.
She was sure of
herself,
confident in her
thoughts,
or so she seemed.

There was longing.

Her laugh was quick,
her smile was gorgeous.
She is a tough girl,
roller derby tough.
Proud of her bruises,
of her scars,
inside and out.

There was frailty.

Mimi loved to write,
hours she would spend
turning desire and thought
into letters dancing in verses.
Unsure of her road,
she would think often of
our father Frost.

There was need.

Mimi came back
to the island
after seven years.
She was sure of
herself,
confident in her
thoughts.
She knew,
she knew,
she didn't belong.

I could see what
I could see,
I could see how much
she was like me.
